Cha Am Attractions



Mrigadayavan Palace - is located on Bang Kra beach between Cha am and Hua hin. Completed in 1924, this summer palace was built by King Rama VI as a summer getaway.

The palace is divided into 3 usage areas. The first as you enter is the audience hall for business and entertainment, then you enter the men's quarters, including the King's personal rooms, and finally the ladies quarters. Unfortunately no photographs are allowed in both the Kings and Queens personal rooms.

Two very long corridors lead off from the main building to two beach pavilions, one for the King and one for the ladies. The King's pavilion has a large cross on the top, used to signal the King's activities by the use of coloured lanterns.

Another small building at the rear of the palace shows life in the serving quarters.



Puek-Tian - (sometimes spelt Puk Tian or Puk Tien) is a small beach resort town located 18 km North of Cha Am. It is famous for its statues in the sea depicting characters from one of Thailand's greatest poets Sunthon Phu and his epic 30,000 line story Phra Aphai Mani.It is very popular with local Thai families at the weekend, when the come here to sit under the pine tree's, eat seafood, swim and go horse riding on the beach. During the week however, it is usually very peaceful.

Phetchaburi - (Phetburi) is dominated by a hill known locally as Khao Wang. On top of this hill sits Phra Nakhon Khiri historic park, a collection of palace buildings and temples built in 1859 for King Rama IV.

The hill itself has three peaks.

The Western Peak - Here you can find the palace and its associated buildings. The palace rooms are in the museum where you can see the Kings living and sleeping quarters.

55 kms to the Northwest of Cha am is Thailand's largest national park, Kaeng Krachan. You can take a day trip here to visit the dam and reservoir, or if you want to go trekking into the park itself you will need to spend a few days and arrange a four wheel drive and permit. So if you really want to go trekking it's best to arrange a trip from one of the travel agents along the beach road in Cha am or contact the park visitor centre Tel: 032 459293 who can arrange transport from the visitor centre and accommodation.

Lucky wildlife spotters will get a chance to see many animals including elephants, leopards, tigers, barking deer, gibbons, wild pigs, birds and butterflies.
