Cha Am : is a district in the southern part of Phetchaburi province, central Thailand. The district was established in 1897 in the name of Na Yang. In 1914 the center of the district was moved to Ban Nong Chok (now in Tha Yang district) and changed the name to Nong Chok district. After World War II, the government moved the office to Tambon Cha Am and also changed the district name to be Cha Am. Cha Am beach is another beautiful seaside resort area located at about 200 kms (124 miles) from Bangkok. Travelling by car will take about 2.5 hours. There are several good hotels along Cha Am beach road and also at nearby beaches. Chao Samran Beach This historic beach is 15 kms. southeast of the town. Legend says that King Naresuan the Great and King Eka Thotsarot made several royal visits here and highly appreciated its beauty. The villagers thus rendered it a name "Hat Chao Samran", which means "Beach of Royal Leisure". King Rama IV ordered a seaside palace built at this beach in 1918 and called it " Hat Chao Samran Palace". Puek Tian Beach is located in the vicinity of Tambon Puek Tian , Amphoe Tha Yang , seven kilometers south of Hat Cho Samran Beach. Otherwise one can travel via Phetch Kasem Highway; a left turn is made at Amphoe Tha Yang to join the road along the Irrigation Canal Route II for a distance of 15 kilometers. Puek Tian Canal flows through the area above Puek Tian Beach. The white sandy beach itself is very wide and long. The area surrounding the canal is a prairie dotted with samae trees providing very beautiful scenery.
